Between bank accounts

Why Toronto residents choose KnightsbridgeFX

An electronic currency exchange for larger amounts moved between bank accounts. It does not handle banknotes.

Compare KnightsbridgeFX with your bank

KnightsbridgeFX says it is "guaranteed to offer you a better exchange rate than your financial institution" and will beat a verified competitor quote. That is its claim, not a test result, so ask for its quote and your bank's on the same amount and compare the totals. More tips: ten ways to save on currency exchange.

Fast, simple electronic transfers

Funds arrive "generally same-day or next business day", the company says, depending on how you send them. Some take longer, and banks outside Canada may charge to receive a transfer. Its guide to wire transfer timeframes in Canada explains the delays. Its minimum is usually $2,000, "but we have some flexibility", and it says quoted rates include its fees.

Canadian service and trust information

Its head office at First Canadian Place, 100 King Street West, is by appointment only, not a walk-in counter. It publishes FINTRAC number M09819788 (check the registry) and says it is BBB accredited, A+. Registration is a legal requirement, not an endorsement or a guarantee of funds. See its currency exchange in Canada page and its personal currency exchange service.

How KnightsbridgeFX works

Five steps, as the company describes them on its How it works page. The times are its own estimates.

  1. Sign up

Register online and upload photo ID and a bank statement. The company says this takes about 3 minutes.

  2. Get verified

Your account is approved once the documents are checked, usually in less than 1 business day, by the company's account.

  3. Book transaction

Book the exchange in your online account or by phone, email or chat, and get the rate before you commit.

  4. Send funds

Send your money by bill payment, Interac e-Transfer, wire or EFT from your own bank account. No cash or cheques.

  5. Receive funds

The converted money goes to the account you name: yours, another person's or a company's.

Toronto Pearson airport counters

Toronto Pearson, in Mississauga, names International Currency Exchange (ICE) and CIBC as its currency exchange partners, with counters in Terminals 1 and 3, before and after security. Who we help in Toronto

Larger conversions between accounts are where a quote is worth comparing.

Snowbirds spending winters in the United States

Moving CAD into a US account each season is a larger, repeat conversion, which suits an electronic quote more than cash.

Read KnightsbridgeFX on snowbird currency exchange and its guide to US snowbird destinations.

Canadians buying or maintaining U.S. property

Deposits, closing funds, property tax and condo fees are large payments with deadlines, so ask how long settlement takes before you book.

Read KnightsbridgeFX on real estate currency exchange.

Import, export and cross-border businesses

Businesses paying US suppliers or receiving US revenue can compare a quote on each invoice with the bank. KnightsbridgeFX says it can send funds to a company account.

Students and professionals abroad

Tuition and living costs abroad are paid from a bank account, not with cash. Compare the final amount received, and ask whether the receiving bank charges a fee.

Start your currency exchange

Compare final CAD figures for the same amount, direction and service, taken close together.

Buying USD

Total CAD cost = USD amount × rate + fees in CAD

Selling USD

Final CAD payout = USD amount × rate − fees in CAD

Open a KnightsbridgeFX account

You need an account before you can book. Sign-up asks for photo ID and a bank statement, and KnightsbridgeFX does not list a fee for opening one. Once you are verified, ask for a quote on your amount.

Toronto currency exchange FAQs

There are three ways. Buy US cash at a storefront or bank branch, convert between your own CAD and USD accounts at your bank, or use an electronic exchange such as KnightsbridgeFX. Phone ahead for cash. For a larger amount between accounts, get a written quote and compare the total CAD cost with your bank.

Start with whether you need cash. Downtown, Interchange Financial is at Yonge and Dundas and Currency Mart is in the PATH at 120 Adelaide Street West. Continental is in Yorkdale. Phone two or three for the rate on your exact amount, and look each one up in the public FINTRAC registry.

Downtown has walk-in cash counters, including Interchange Financial at 20 Dundas Street West and Currency Mart in the PATH, plus bank branches. KnightsbridgeFX has an appointment-only office at First Canadian Place, but it converts money between bank accounts and does not exchange cash.

There is no single answer, and this page has no same-day Toronto quotes to rank providers. For travel cash, compare storefront quotes on your amount. For a larger transfer between accounts, compare an electronic quote, such as one from KnightsbridgeFX, with your bank on the same day, including fees.

Only for a small amount you need at the last minute. Pearson, which is in Mississauga, has ICE and CIBC counters in Terminals 1 and 3, but there is little time to compare. Change larger amounts before you leave for the airport, and ask the counter for its rate and fee first.

How this page was put together

Provider details come from each provider's website, read November 3, 2026; company claims are quoted as theirs. Bank rates are published non-cash rates with the time read. No Toronto provider has been phoned, priced or ranked, and FINTRAC and BBB details are as each company states them.

General information, not financial advice. Confirm rates, fees and registration with the provider before you exchange.
